Amenities & History
Hello & Welcome to The Inn on Maple in beautiful downtown Sister Bay, Door County, Wisconsin. We moved from our suburban Chicago hometown of Des Plaines, Illinois in 1995.
Our love affair with this beautiful peninsula began many years ago. Our family enjoyed frequent visits to Peninsula State Park and sometime later many wonderful weekends at our Egg Harbor cottage. We decided to move to Door County permanently. We found this wonderful old Inn and felt at home immediately!
Our inn was originally constructed in 1902 as a residence and meat market for the Jischke family. Through the years it has been home to several different businesses. The National Register of Historic Places lists it as one of the finest examples of commercial-residential stovewood buildings in Wisconsin. The 1983 renovation kept the style and character intact while adding bathrooms to all of the guest bedrooms.
Staying at the "Inn on Maple" offers the privacy of a quiet room or the sociability of our "Gathering Room." In summer our backyard lends itself to birdwatching, relaxing or quiet conversation. The rooms are upstairs, accommodate two people each, and are furnished with antique beds, affording a restful night's sleep in an atmosphere of yesteryear. Each bedroom has its own private bathroom. The entire Inn is air conditioned.
"Breakfast is served"
We serve breakfast on our sunny enclosed front porch, or in our "Gathering Room" by the fire, or even outside on our deck, at 8:30 a.m. An "early-riser breakfast" is available upon request in advance. Breakfast may include fresh fruits, juice, homemade muffins or breads, and a new breakfast selection daily from our collection of recipes. In the afternoon cookies and lemonade or coffee is served.
The HollyHock Shop
We are happy to announce the opening of The Hollyhock Shop. Our shop offers a whimsical giftware collection of bunnies, bath, florals, and many unexpected treasures. Mary Englebreit designs are also featured. Our guests are welcome to browse at their leisure.
